FC Liverpool thanks to the double strike against Villarreal on final course

European Classic: Liverpool 3-0 Villarreal | Sturridge & Lallana set up final date in Basel
Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp rotated after the 2-0 in the Merseyside derby against Everton in three positions: Instead of Matip, Keita and Diogo Jota (all bank), Konaté, Henderson and Luis Diaz started.

Villarreal coach Unai Emery also switched three times after the 2-0 against FC Valencia. Mandi, Manu Trigueros (both bank) and Yeremy (injured) were replaced by Pau, Coquelin and Samu Chukwueze, who had ensured that from FC Bayern with his goal to 1-1 in Munich in the quarter-finals. Striker Gerard (muscle injury) did not get fit in time.

Henderson and Thiago Meet Alu

Villarreal expected Liverpool against the ball with two chains of four, leaving little space to combine in the center. So it took a good ten minutes for the playfully clearly superior reds in the person of Mané to get a first good chance (12th). In the further course of the first half, the LFC remained dominant, the Spaniards hardly even appeared beyond the center line.

While the Klopp team regained many balls almost immediately in counterpressing, there was a little lack of punch against the very narrow and deep guests. Nevertheless, there were opportunities: Henderson hit the outer post (22nd) from a very pointed angle, Salah fled too high after interaction with Mané (27th).

In the final phase before half -time, the pressure continued. A treacherously deflected mané shot just turned past the goal (33.), Salah moved by a few meters after a quick attack Volley (35th). Thiago finally hit the left outer post (42.) with a massive spacer shot, so that it stayed with the break from Villarreal’s point of view.

Henderson with luck, mané elegant

After the break it continued with the pressure of the Reds. After a offside goal of Fabinho was not rightly recognized after a corner kick (50th), Liverpool took the lead a little later – with a little luck: Henderson’s flank test was crucial by Estupinan via Rulli, who only came to the play equipment with his fingertips, deflected into the left Toreck (53.). And it came even better for the Klopp-Elf, because shortly afterwards Salah served Mané at the right moment, who made the double strike perfect by outside (55.).

While Villarreal was not able to book a good chance of scoring afterwards and did not take a single time directly onto the opposing goal in the entire game, Liverpool had more opportunities. After another offside goal (Robertson, 64.), van Dijk forced Rulli with a violent shot to an unorthxen parade (68.). Luis Diaz narrowly grimaced twice (68th, 79th), so that in view of the numerous LFC chances – there was still a moderate 2-0.

The Reds will be guest on Saturday (1.30 p.m.) at Newcastle United, before the semi-final second leg at FC Villarreal follows on Tuesday (9 p.m.). The yellow submarine in La Liga previously guested on Saturday (2 p.m.) at Deportivo Alaves.
