Two weeks before French Open: Djokovic fails on Alcaraz
Novak Djokovic left the ATP Masters in Madrid despite steeply increasing shape curve. The world ranking list lost two weeks before the French Open in the high -class semi -finals against Spain’s shooting star Carlos Alcaraz with 7: 6 (7: 5), 5: 7, 6: 7 (5: 7) and thus missed his second final of the year after his final defeat in Belgrade. In Roland Garros, the 34-year-old will be defending champion from May 22nd.
The sensational Alcaraz (19) in the Spanish generation duel on Friday had defeated Rafael Nadal (35) for the first time – and he also demanded everything in the first meeting. However, the Serb held well against it, he played tactically well and countered his opponent’s whipping blows or his countless stops. In the end, however, after more than three and a half hours he went out of strength.
In the final on Sunday there is a duel between Alcaraz and the German Olympic champion Alexander Zverev (Hamburg) or the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Djokovic generally wants to take it easy. “It is the same for me who is on the other side of the network,” he said. “I just want to get better and better every day. I am currently concentrating on myself.”
